Mind Matters- Understanding Mental Illness. Mind Matters is an innovative curriculum containing video, print and CD-ROM resources and information, designed to help educate middle school students, Grade 7 - 9, about mental illness in teens. In this video sample (07:30), you’ll find representative clips excerpted from the four videos produced, which average about ten minutes in length each, and present profiles of real teenage subjects facing individual battles with mental illness. In their own words, they describe their personal struggles with one of four disorders: mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and ADHD. The teens talk about their experiences on camera; what it is like to be diagnosed; how the disorder affects their life; and how they—and their families—are contending with the many difficulties their particular disorder presents. The program was developed and produced for Danya International, Inc., a leading private sector public health communications and health product development company, and The National Institutes of Mental Health, the underwriter for the curriculum.
